The Science Committee of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan announces the contest on grant funding for Senior Scientists Groups (SSG) and Junior Researcher Groups (JRG) for commercialization of research and development results within Fostering Productive Innovation Project. SSG and JRG Grants will be provided to Kazakhstan's leading scientists, researchers and talented young businessmen who have expressed a desire to carry out industrial research and development for introduction in manufacturing and / or to market technology for further commercialization. The period of implementation under the grant for technology commercialization should not exceed three years from the date of the beginning of the sub-project.

The contest is open for research and development proposals from scientists’ groups and individuals to conduct high quality scientific research with realistic commercial potential. The groups should be staffed with not more than 7 persons, not less than 50% of whom must be citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan including the head of the sub-project. Grant recipients will need to incorporate themselves in order to receive funding.

Selection process will be held in two stages by the International Science and Commercialization Board. In addition to high scientific merit of the proposed research and development sub-project, the emphasis will be placed on the commercial potential of the technology and readiness of the technology to enter the market, as well as the existence of the private partner and / or a client for the technology.

The amount of approved funding for each group will vary depending on the volume of work envisaged, the scientific disciplines and features of research. The amount of funding application should not exceed 230 million tenge for SSG and 180 million tenge for JRG.

The expected outcome of the proposed sub-project will be achieving proven technology commercialization results (making sales at a minimum) by the created company by the end of 3 years of the project implementation and/or attraction of investments from enterprise sector and/or selling technology through licensing.

Application period starts on July 25, 2016. Applications must be submitted only online via portal.fpip.kz in English. Applicants are encouraged to ensure high quality English translation. Applications deadline is August 15, 2016, 6:00 pm Astana time. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered.
